Living Gate says on their YouTube page they “found themselves bonding over a common love of death metal bands both classic … and contemporary. It is in recognition of these shared admirations as well as a mutual respect of each other’s musical chops that LIVING GATE has been founded. Purposefully devoid of over-polished, meticulously edited sounds, Living Gate puts its emphasis upon unrelenting, raw drums which are continuously blanketed by a vomit of menacing riffs and heaving guttural orations”. If this was their goal they nailed it on the head. I honestly couldn’t have said it better myself, and I cannot wait for the DeathLust EP to drop in June 2020.

Living Gate
Living Gate is a new group comprised of Lennart Bossu, Wim Coppers, Aaron Rieseberg, and Levy Seynaeve. They are members of Amenra, Wiegedood, Oathbreaker, and Yob. I discovered them while I was catching up on news from the Yob camp as I was a huge fan of their most recent release Our Raw Heart (June 2018) and I was really pumped to hear it. It didn’t disappoint either. The song starts with a bang! Crushing riffs weaving in and out of tasty tremolo runs, the low growls belting out over the guitars, backboned by a tight rhythm section. There is a rawness to the music bouncing between classic old school tones and modern riff styles. Classic yet still very fresh. It all fades out, around the three-minute mark, slowly as this washed-out white noise starts taking over. The white noise fades into this creepy melodic outro bringing feelings of deep black space It makes you feel like you’ve been peering into a portal to a heavy ass dimension of riff and are left floating in a cosmic and ethereal plane, floating to who knows where.
